Factory 2050 is the UK’s first fully reconfigurable assembly and component manufacturing for collaborative research capable of rapidly switching production between different high value components and on-off parts. The landmark circular building, with attached large scale manufacturing facility, combines a range of technologies, including; advanced robotics, flexible automation, unmanned workspace, off-line printing in virtual environments linked to plug and play robotics, 3D printing from flexible automated systems, man-machine interfaces, and new programming and training tools.
A team of highly experienced engineers, based in RPS’ Leeds office, provided a number of key services to the project including; MEP Design, sustainability and site wide infrastructure advice and monitoring of the project during construction. The RPS team were retained by the client, with other professional consultants being novated to the contractor, to provide technical advice and assist in managing the delivery of the project to time and budget. Detailed Stage reports, specification and tender information were produced supported by the RPS team carrying out inspection and monitoring duties to ensure the client’s requirements in terms of quality and workmanship were maintained. Assistance to the QS and CDMC was also provided by RPS to ensure that technical, commercial and installation cost and risks were monitored and controlled to mitigate cost and programme impact with all issues communicated to the client via progress meetings.
