At the well-known Cheltenham Racecourse, RPS was appointed by the Horserace Betting Levy Board to monitor its capital investment in the creation of a new, multi-million-pound, state-of-the-art grandstand which was being developed alongside the existing main grandstand. The development was designed to include new members’ facilities, private boxes, a Super Club and the Royal Box. A noticeable feature was the creation of elevated walkways around the parade ring, providing a multi-tiered ‘amphitheatre’ experience.
Our role was to assess the feasibility of technical proposals and then monitor the project throughout the construction phase on behalf of the Levy Board. Our appointment ensured best value, best practice and the efficient and effective delivery of an iconic new development.
The development was, at the time, the Jockey Club’s largest single investment in facilities and built on more than £80 million invested in facilities at Cheltenham in the previous 30 years.
RPS has also worked on racing related projects including those at Ascot, York, Aintree and Epsom racecourses.
