RPS provides planning, environmental and multi-disciplinary design services across a wide range of projects in the rail sector. We are both certified and audited under the RISQS railway industry supplier qualification scheme across a wide range of service categories.

We have a strong knowledge of Network Rail’s Governance for Railway Investment Projects (GRIP) process and the associated stages within a development project lifecycle. Through our multi-disciplinary approach we fully integrate and coordinate rail development projects and manage their progress through the sector’s rigorous assurance processes.

Our clients include Network Rail, Crossrail, Train Operating Companies, Rolling Stock Manufacturers, National & International Contractors, Logistics Companies and Public Authorities.

Our planners are experienced in the full range of planning processes including Transport Works Act Orders, Development Consent Orders and Permitted Development. The impacts of development proposals can be assessed and mitigated by our expert consultants who cover the full range of environmental specialisms. Our design capability covers civil and structural engineering, architecture and building services, together with rail sector specialisms covering Permanent-Way, signalling and traction power design.

Alan is a Chartered Structural Engineer and Architectural Technologist who has extensive experience in a wide range of rail sector development projects. He has a multidisciplinary outlook, a strong focus on successfully negotiating rail sector assurance processes and the ability to quickly identify practical, pragmatic solutions to project challenges. Alan is commercially aware and able to provide a strong strategic contribution at all project stages.

Tilo has successfully delivered the design of complex multi-disciplinary projects in the rail and industrial sectors. Tilo develops solutions from feasibility studies through to handing over the completed development and efficiently manages all stages of design development and assurance. His clients include Network Rail, Crossrail, National & International Contractors, Rolling Stock Manufacturers and Train Operating Companies.

Steve Austin

Steve is a chartered town planner with over 11 years’ experience in the planning profession, having previously spent 8 years working for Network Rail. He has particular planning expertise in both infrastructure and commercial rail related development, stakeholder management and negotiation.

Steve has significant experience of infrastructure projects across the rail network including major station redevelopments including Kings Cross and London Bridge, passenger capacity improvement works, electrification, Maintenance Delivery Units (MDU’s), asset protection, embankment works, new rail lines/chords, W10 gauge clearance, depots, Rail Operating Centres (ROCs), Access for All (AFA), ERTMS, signalling, GSM-R, Level Crossing closures and the National Station Improvement Programme (NSIP).

Christy O’Sullivan

In Christy’s 28 years’ experience he has delivered numerous large scale linear infrastructure projects. He specialises in Design Build project delivery, having worked for design teams and contractors on numerous projects with values exceeding £100m, including Docklands Light Railway, HS2 and Luton MRT. He has an excellent understanding of the needs of contractor clients.
