Marina & Waterfront Design

RPS has over 30 years experience in planning and designing Marinas and Waterfront developments.

Over the past three decades, RPS has been responsible for planning and design of many waterfront development and marina schemes both nationally and internationally. We have designed and supervised the installation of several thousand pontoon berths and major floating breakwaters around the UK and overseas. Approximately, a further 3,000 berths are at various stages of design.

RPS has provided consultancy advice in waterfront developments to private companies, local and central governments, and can be relied upon to provide dedicated impartial advice to exacting standards.

RPS was appointed by North Down Borough Council to undertake the detailed design and project management of a £18m seafront development scheme at Bangor Harbour. RPS was the lead consultant on this prestigious development.

Responsibilities:

Overall lead design consultant

Design of major breakwaters 300m, quays, dredging and 550 berth pontoon layout

Bantry Waterfront Development

Bantry Bay Harbour

RPS was appointed by Bantry Bay Harbour Commissioners to develop a master plan for a waterfront development in Bantry Bay Inner Harbour.

Responsibilities:

Feasibility report detailing various development proposals including dredging of the inner harbour, land reclamation re-using dredged material, disposal of dredged material and provision of marina facilities

Scope, procure and supervise site investigation

Provision of 150-200 berths

Identify all necessary licences and statutory processes required for the Contract Document Stage.

EIS to cover all works associated with the development including dredging, construction and project completion

Computational modelling of wave tidal effects associated with the development proposals.

Identify and prioritise options for phasing the implementation of the recommended Bantry Inner Harbour development option

Caladh Mor Sheltered Harbour Development

Galway County Council

RPS was appointed by Galway County Council to carry out a preliminary design, licence approvals, detailed design, preparation of Tender Documents and supervision for Caladh Mor Sheltered Harbour Development, Inishmann.

The project attained the Concrete Society award for sustainable reuse of dredged material in the concrete armour units.

RPS was appointed by Carrickfergus Borough Council to carry out a feasibility study, market assessment, planning, design and supervision of this 360 berth marina and waterfront development.

Responsibilities:

Design and project management of breakwaters, dredging, reclamation and 300 berth pontoon layout

Masterplanning and project management of ongoing landside commercial and residential development

Masterplanning and integration of proposals into Town Planning

Warrenpoint Harbour Authority

RPS was appointed by Warrenpoint Harbour Authority to undertake a technical and financial feasibility study and market assessment for the provision of a marina at the seafront development site.

Responsibilities:

Development strategy in accordance with town and waterfront masterplan

Technical assessment of site suitability

Investigation of operational issues with adjacent port activity

Market assessment for establishing berth capacity and size distribution

Initial design and breakwaters and berthing arrangement

Public display of proposals and consultation with interested parties.
