At the heart of Birmingham’s business district, this exciting project demonstrates DBK’s expertise through the provision of cost management and CDM consultancy / principal designer services.

The scheme intends to mirror Birmingham’s proud industrial past through a combination of classical elegance and modern efficiency, restoring the original Victorian features, stripping out some recent additions, and creating 160,000ft2 of office space alongside 70 parking spaces. A new 6th floor is to be added.

The classical fa├žade’s windows have the original Victorian stonework, but will be fitted with high performance glass to minimise heat loss and cut down the warming effect of the summer sun. A brown roof is to be fitted as well to minimise rainwater run-off and provide effective insulation.

Hidden away for decades, the main reception features a superb Victorian banking hall which will enclose the main reception desk and an informal meeting area. The high ceiling and a light well over the foyer will create a feeling of light and space, a feeling which will extend throughout the building due to a central lift atrium and two other light wells. This will be the first Birmingham building of its size to incorporate a Variable Refrigeration Flow (VRF) heating and cooling system, using air source heat pump technology to minimise energy costs, and create a comfortable working environment all year round.
