A3 Hindhead

A3 Hindhead A3 Hindhead

Mott MacDonald / Balfour Beatty / Highways Agency

This environmentally sensitive scheme involves the construction of a tunnel under the Devil's Punch Bowl and provision of an associated 6.7 km by-pass to relieve chronic congestion within the centre of Hindhead. The scheme area includes designated SSSI, SPA, AONB and ASLQ sites.

Much of the land is common land in the ownership and management of the National Trust. The project required an Appropriate Assessment and the provision of exchange land to compensate for common land taken by the scheme. RPS gave the Landscape, Townscape, Visual Impact and Ecological evidence at the Public Inquiry for the scheme. The environmental benefits that the scheme will deliver enabled many of the local and statutory consultees to support the scheme at the Public Inquiry.

RPS have gone on to prepare the detailed environmental design and assist in the preparation of the tender package. This £370m scheme is now in construction and will be subject to a five year landscape and ecological aftercare period.

Bridges Hall

Bridges Hall Bridges Hall

University of Reading

RPS carried out the pre-development site tree assessment for the redevelopment of a section of student accommodation at the University of Reading.

The trees form a key landscape feature and their retention is considered of high priority. The survey allowed the retention and protection of the trees to be considered at an early stage and incorporated into the design.

RPS have been engaged to be the consultant arboriculturalists throughout the demolition and construction phases, our monitoring and support will provide the development with important environmental credits along with the considered protection of the tree through development.

Partnerships for Renewables

RPS has worked closely with Partnerships for Renewables and Forestry Commission Scotland to provide the Environmental Statement required for a wind farm application.

Part of the work consisted of an independent appraisal of the forest and the likely impacts on the current Forest Design Plan for Cairnoch Hill.

The turbines have been designed to have the minimum affect on the forest over the 25 years of their life. This information was part of the overall assessment and compliant with the current Scottish Forestry policies.
