RPS is at the forefront of providing Asset Management services to UK Water Companies.

Maintaining the balance between expenditure on asset maintenance and the consequences of asset failure is fundamental to any business.

Using the principles set out in OFWAT’s guideline document ‘Common Framework for Capital Maintenance Planning’ RPS has developed tools and techniques to assist utilities in achieving an optimised approach to the asset management function through:

Kelda Water Services Defence

Kelda Water Services Defence commissioned RPS to replace its in-house developed systems for consumption and billing in relation to the Aquatrine Ministry of Defence project.

Waternet™ was installed which brought together the required elements of the previous systems but also developed improved reporting functionality and integration.

South East Water/Jacobs

In recent years it was thought that South East Water’s groundwater abstractions in Maidenhead were contributing to the lowering of water levels in the Maidenhead Ditch.

RPS supported the completion of an AMP5 Low Flow impact assessment of the Maidenhead Ditch with Jacobs to assess the potential impacts of abstraction on the local water environment. Hydrogeological services provided by RPS included observation borehole design and drilling supervision, pump test design and interpretation, tracer tests, groundwater modelling review, groundwater level and flow analysis and stakeholder consultation.

Laois County Council

Award-winning wastewater treatment in Irish Midlands.

This project involved design and construction of a new collection system, upgraded wastewater treatment plant and a new sludge treatment facility. It provides significant environmental benefits for the town of Portlaoise, its environs and the wider community.

The use of a gravity sewerage system in place of older pumping stations has reduced energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Improvements in water quality and the local environment were also achieved, particularly water quality in the Triogue River, which has allowed aquatic life to return and has provided enhanced protection to the River Barrow Special Area of Conservation 5km downstream. The project included a state of the art sludge management facility that has the capacity to treat all municipal sludges generated in County Laois. It was awarded the Engineers Ireland Environmental Infrastructure Award in November 2011.

Northern Ireland Water

RPS was appointed to update and improve Northern Ireland Water's computerised water networks models.

RPS has been engaged to undertake the updating and construction of hydraulic network models for Northern Ireland Water to support their Zonal Studies programme. The updated models will be used in a programme of investigations into water network performance and serviceability investment needs. This will be used by NIW to develop and confirm their future investment requirements.

The modelling programme involves an assessment of existing models, undertaking updates and/or construction of new models, investigations into network monitoring, planning and undertaking extensive flow and pressure logging surveys, model calibration and the development of predictive models of future demand scenarios.
