RPS delivered engineering designs for a new Academy and Special Educational Needs (SEN) School using BIM via REVIT Structures, in conjunction with an external architect, using ArchiCAD.

The school, for c.1050 pupils aged 11-19, was constructed on an occupied site.

The steeply sloping site was used to carefully blend the new buildings into the contours of the ground, creating a terraced design layout, with the SEN school and Academy’s core functions located at a common ground level for ease of accessibility.

Now complete, the Academy has:

Triple height central atrium

Two double height assembly halls

Four court sports hall

Two outdoor MUGA pitches and an all weather football pitch

SEN enclosed sensory courtyard & hydrotherapy pool.

A 50kw wind turbine, under-floor heating, extensive natural lighting and ventilation systems, use of thermal mass for environmental control all contributed towards achieving carbon emission reductions of over 60%.
