Our qualified Civil Engineers provide advice and solutions for a wide range of private and public sector clients across a spectrum of sectors.

Our technical specialists have a pro-active design philosophy giving careful consideration for economics, health and safety and the environmental impact of the design solution. Concepts and ideas are quickly realised and developed using the latest techniques such as Building Information Modelling and Visualisations.

Our teams can provide the engineering input to a project at any point in its life cycle, such as:

Concept and Masterplanning

Environmental impact assessments

Feasibility and Preliminary design

Detailed design

Value engineering

Design support during construction

Construction supervision.

RPS provides considerable expertise in all aspects of Civil Engineering and offers a focussed comprehensive design service for:

Highway infrastructure and junctions

Sustainable Drainage (SUDS)

Flood and Coastal Protection

Blackpool Tram Depot

Blackpool Tram Depot, Blackpool

Blackpool Council

RPS provided design consultancy services for a new 'landmark' facility on Blackpool's promenade.

RPS provided Architectural, Civil and Structural Engineering and CDM-Co-ordinator services for a new 'landmark' facility on Blackpool's promenade.

The development provides a new maintenance and stabling depot for a fleet of 16 new Bombardier 'Flexity 2' trams and a residual fleet of heritage trams.

The depot houses fixed tram lifting equipment comprising monorail hoist, travelling crane wheel lathe and access platforms along with a tramwash and automated sand system. Externally, the building features striking waveform cladding illuminated by LED lighting. Sustainable features include surface water drainage attenuation and natural lighting.

Newry to Dundalk Design Build

Ireland

SIAC / Ferrovial (Northroute JV)

RPS had a multi-disciplinary role supporting this 13.5km Dual Carriageway scheme which forms a vital link in the main Dublin-Belfast corridor.

The €100m project, through difficult topography involves the design and construction of 13.5km of all-purpose two lane dual carriageway, three grade separated junctions, 11 principal structures (road, river and rail bridges), soft and contaminated ground geotechnical solutions and the realignment of approximately 6km of associated regional and county road.

As sole Contractor’s Designer, RPS was fully responsible for conceptual design, value engineering, detailed design & specification, traffic management design, landscape design, construction supervision, certification of design and construction.

North Dublin Drainage Works

North Dublin Drainage Works

Ireland

Dublin City Council

RPS supported the Dublin Bay Project was the largest urban drainage project ever undertaken in Ireland, providing for integrated networks and treatment at Ringsend for the whole Greater Dublin Catchment.

RPS oversaw all stages of planning, design, procurement and construction supervision for the North Dublin Works, comprising network sewers, Sutton Pumping Station and 11km subsea pipeline to Ringsend. These works service a population of up to 400,000 and cater for the medium term needs of the region including Dublin Airport and the North Fringe (Fingal / DCC) development areas.

The works include state of the art pumping and storage management, odour treatment, tunnels and the largest wastewater marine pipeline in Europe. It integrated the new works to the existing infrastructure of the area and eliminated a major untreated sewage discharge at Howth.

Store Extension and Refurbishment

Hayes

Sainsbury's

RPS provided Civil Engineering designs for the transformation of a single-floor 1980’s shop into a 21st century, two level superstore; increasing the floor space by 60%.

This provided an additional 33,700ft2 sales area, making it Sainsbury’s largest retail store and their first store with a mezzanine level for general merchandise sales.

RPS used Autodesk Revit BIM technology to design and deliver this project. The disciplines worked hand-in-hand using the same evolving 3D building information model.

This extensive remodelling was undertaken with no disruption to trading and involved:

A complete re-design of the store layout

A new store front extension

A new two-storey side extension incorporating lift, stairs and travellator

New café on the mezzanine

Full refurbishment of the existing store

A new 3-level multi-story car park connected to the store by bridge.

Spittal Quarry

Spittal Quarry

Northside/ Farrans Homes

RPS provided Civil Engineering and Transportation services for the development of a former Quarry for residential use.

Our services included preliminary and detailed designs, EIS and securing planning approval.

RPS developed models of the finished site profile to remove the need to import or export material to and from the site. The project involved the cutting and redistribution of 400,000m³ of material on the site to facilitate the construction of 450 dwellings. Levels on the lower portion of the site are to be raised by up to 15m.
