RPS, in joint venture (JV) with Penspen Ltd was awarded the contract for the design, project management, preliminary and detailed routing, environmental studies and statutory applications for the South-North Gas Pipeline.
The South-North Gas Pipeline represents an important extension and development to the all Ireland gas transmission network.
The pipeline is 156 km in length, 450mm in diameter and has a design pressure of 85 bar. A total of 9 Above Ground Installations (AGIs) have been constructed that will facilitate maintenance and onward distribution of gas to strategic towns on-route. There are a total of 145 road crossings, 3 motorway crossings, 18 major river crossings, 5 railway crossings and 1 canal crossing.
RPS was responsible for the strategic planning, the Environmental Impact Assessment and the attainment of all statutory consents. Other responsibilities, in association with our JV partner, Penspen, included, preliminary design, project management, contract documents, procurement and construction supervision.
