Airport Links the Way to Underground Legacy
Our Brisbane Surveying & Mapping and Landscape Architecture teams are currently working on Legacy Way, the 4.3km long underground tunnel road and the Landscape Architecture team was recently part of the winning consortium which has been engaged on Brisbane City Council’s Robinson Road alliance project at Geebung.
The project scope includes an upgrade to the Geebung railway station precinct including new pedestrian overpass, lift access and upgraded streetscape and plaza works as well as provision of noise barriers, screening elements and integrated artwork components.
Two full time landscape architects will be located in the alliance project office for the next six months and the win further cements our strong working relationship with BMD and SMEC.
Through an introduction from an RPS Technical Director, our Surveying & Mapping team is also providing services on this significant road and rail upgrade project.
Terrestrial Scanning specialist Nick McKelvey is hoping to transfer his experience from Airport Link to future projects. On Airport Link RPS undertook accurate modelling of the Inner City Bypass, Clem 7 Bypass Tunnel road structures, and the road surface of Lutwyche, Gympie, Bowen Bridge and Stafford Roads which was required for design purposes. Terrestrial scanning provided an ideal alternative to conventional survey methods for these large, complex and busy "live" roads and construction sites.
Scanning was completed with zero impact to vehicular traffic flow and required minimal OH&S provisions. Final deliverables were 3D coded strings to Main Roads standards for integration into aerial photography and conventional survey datasets.
The data provided consisted of road surface including line marking, traffic islands, lights and other structures as well as profiles of overpasses and bridge structures and associated headstocks and columns. Scanning was also utilised during Airport Link’s construction phase to assist with as constructed reporting and detailed surveys.
