N59 Moycullen Bypass officially opened by An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar

We were delighted to attend the official opening of the N59 Moycullen Bypass on Monday, 11th December 2023.

The project is located 13km outside Galway City and extends from approximately 1.5km north-west of Moycullen to 2km to the south-east.

Our multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy services included detailed design, advanced and main works contracts procurement, construction supervision and contract administration for the scheme on behalf of Galway County Council.

The development will significantly improve both pedestrian and cyclist safety in Moycullen, removing high levels of commuter, tourist and heavy goods traffic travelling through the village on a daily basis. 

Key elements of the scheme include:

• 2 at-grade roundabouts on the N59

• 8 bridge structures (road, river, canal and underpasses)

• 3.5km of local road improvements/realignments

• 1.7km farm/accommodation roads

Speaking at the official opening, An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said, “It is a great pleasure to officially open the Moycullen bypass. This road will mean more efficient journeys for people travelling to work, college and public services. It will reduce congestion locally and provide for safer road travel.

By improving our roads and connectivity, we make these communities more attractive places to live and work, developing our country in a sustainable way. While benefiting residents daily, it will also improve the experience of the many visitors to this beautiful region.”
