RPS and Hewson Consulting unveil new visuals for Eastern Garvoge Bridge and Approach Roads Project
We're thrilled to share new visualisations of the Eastern Garvoge Bridge and Approach Roads project which we are designing in collaboration with Hewson Consulting for Sligo County Council.
This project will create a new crossing over the Garvoge River on the eastern side of Sligo town, connecting communities in the south-eastern and north-eastern areas, and linking key services such as Sligo University Hospital, Atlantic Technological University, schools and other employment centres.
The proposed 2.1km scheme will provide a new road link in a north-south direction, crossing the Garvoge River on the eastern side of Sligo town. Connection points with the existing road network were selected on the basis of dispersing traffic across the existing road network to ensure that the new link provides the desired improvement to connectivity within Sligo.
We're also enhancing sustainable and active transport by adding new pedestrian and cyclist facilities. These will connect to existing and improved routes along the Garvoge River, improving access to beautiful amenity areas like Doorly Park, Lough Gill, and Hazelwood.
The Eastern Garvoge Bridge project is essential for achieving the goals of the National Development Plan 2018-2027, the National Spatial Strategy 2002-2020, and Project Ireland 2040, where Sligo has been identified as a regional centre and new gateway city.
