Strengthening our expertise: Meet our new Human Factors team
It’s widely acknowledged that people are part of every system and that human actions can affect a system’s reliability. Therefore, to assess risk it’s vital to consider the role of the user. Human Factors (ergonomics) is about ensuring that:
- Tasks are designed to be compatible with the user’s physical and psychological capabilities and limitations;
- The opportunity for human error is eliminated or reduced;
- The contribution human action makes to the safety of any system is understood; and
- The positive contribution users have on reliability is optimised.
Strengthening our expertise, RPS is pleased to welcome Emma Ridsdale who joins us to lead and develop our in-house Human Factors capability. Emma is a Chartered Ergonomist and Human Factors Specialist who is proficient in the application of Human Factors techniques. Emma’s extensive experience of successfully integrating Human Factors within complex multidisciplinary projects will be key as we grow and expand the scope of our capability within nuclear and other high hazard industries.
“I’m passionate about developing a Human Factors team who are easy to work with, understand client needs and deliver solutions to problems that matter” says Emma. “Joining me this week, I am pleased to welcome Ewan Povall to the team. Ewan is an expert at integrating Human Factors relevant good practice into the design and safety case; identifying issues early in the design process to deliver targeted Human Factors solutions”.
